Delhi Police Arrest Hundreds, Seize Weapons Ahead of New Year
Ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, Delhi Police carried out a large-scale citywide crackdown to prevent crime and ensure public safety. The operation targeted known offenders, illegal activities, and potential trouble spots across multiple districts of the capital.
Police officials said hundreds of people were arrested during the drive for violations under laws related to illegal liquor, narcotics, gambling, and other criminal activities. In addition to arrests, preventive action was taken against more than a thousand individuals identified as potential threats to law and order during the festive period.
Weapons, Drugs and Illegal Liquor Seized
As part of the operation, police seized several illegal weapons, including country-made pistols, live cartridges, and sharp-edged weapons. Significant quantities of illicit liquor and narcotic substances were also recovered. Authorities said the seizures were made following coordinated raids, vehicle checks, and intelligence-based operations across the city.
Police also recovered cash suspected to be linked to illegal activities, along with mobile phones and vehicles believed to have been used in committing offences. Several habitual offenders, including bootleggers, drug peddlers, and auto lifters, were taken into custody.
Preventive Measures Ahead of Celebrations
Senior police officers said the operation was aimed at creating a safe environment ahead of large public gatherings expected on New Year’s Eve. Additional patrolling, checkpoints, and surveillance measures will continue in the coming days to deter crime and ensure peaceful celebrations across Delhi.
