Delhi Heatwave May Push Temperature To 45°C
Delhi is expected to face a prolonged heatwave spell from May 18, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting maximum temperatures between 43°C and 45°C over the coming days.
Delhi Heatwave Alert
The IMD has predicted that heatwave conditions are likely to develop in Delhi from Monday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 44°C on May 18, while the minimum temperature may remain near 26°C.
The weather department said maximum temperatures in Delhi are likely to stay in the 43°C to 45°C range from May 18 to May 20. Minimum temperatures are also expected to remain above normal in several parts of the capital.
North India Heatwave Forecast
The heatwave is not limited to Delhi. Parts of northwest and central India are also expected to witness very high temperatures as dry and hot winds continue to affect the region.
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.9°C on Sunday, which was above the seasonal average. The rise in temperature has raised concerns over heat stress, dehydration and health risks for people exposed to outdoor work.
IMD Weather Advisory
The IMD has also forecast strong surface winds in Delhi, with speeds of 20-30 kmph and occasional gusts reaching 40 kmph during the day.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours, drink enough water and take precautions against heat exhaustion. Children, elderly people, outdoor workers and those with existing health conditions remain the most vulnerable during such heatwave conditions.
