Delhi HC Orders Google to Remove Misuse of Sadhguru’s Image
The Delhi High Court has instructed Google LLC to implement technological solutions to identify and remove content on YouTube and other platforms that misuses the name, image or likeness of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.
Details of the Order
A bench led by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora granted interim relief in a suit brought by the Isha Foundation, directing Google to take action against AI-generated videos and fake advertisements claiming Sadhguru’s arrest or involvement in scams.
Meeting and Compliance
The court asked Google and the Isha Foundation to meet and establish a mechanism for spotting “identical or similar” content so that takedowns no longer rely solely on individual reporting. Google must also file an affidavit if it faces technological constraints.
Broader Significance
The ruling reinforces digital platforms’ responsibility under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 to proactively remove misleading or deepfake content that infringes personality rights.
