Delhi Government Forms Panel To Tackle Air Pollution

The Delhi government has formed a high-level panel to address the city’s deteriorating air quality. The committee will be chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and will include senior ministers, department heads, and environmental experts. The move follows rising public health concerns as air quality levels continue to slip into the “very poor” category across several parts of the capital.

Panel Tasked With Monitoring and Enforcement

According to officials, the panel will oversee pollution control efforts across all departments and ensure strict enforcement of norms. Agencies have been directed to take immediate action against violations by construction sites, industries, waste-burning units, and vehicle emissions. Dust control, compliance inspections, and emergency pollution-response measures will be key responsibilities.

Delhi’s Air Pollution Worsens Ahead of Winter

Air quality in Delhi typically dips during winter due to a combination of local emissions, weather patterns, and external factors such as stubble burning in neighbouring states. This year’s pollution levels have again pushed the Air Quality Index into dangerous zones, prompting renewed urgency from the government.

Govt Calls It a Step Toward Accountability

Officials stated that the new panel aims to streamline coordination between departments, ensure transparency in pollution-control measures, and establish accountability for lapses. The government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on pollution and called for collective responsibility across agencies and citizens.
