Delhi Fog Disrupts Flights and Train Services
Dense fog enveloped Delhi and surrounding regions early on Tuesday, sharply reducing visibility and causing widespread disruption to air and rail services. The weather conditions affected normal movement across the national capital, with visibility dropping to very low levels during the early morning hours.
Flight Operations Hit
At Indira Gandhi International Airport, several flights were delayed or rescheduled as airlines implemented low-visibility procedures. Airport authorities said operations continued but with restrictions due to safety protocols. Airlines issued advisories asking passengers to check flight status before leaving for the airport, as delays were expected to continue during peak morning hours.
Train Services Affected
Rail traffic across north India was also impacted as dense fog slowed down operations. Several long-distance and passenger trains were reported to be running behind schedule, with delays ranging from minutes to several hours. Railway officials said speed restrictions were imposed to ensure passenger safety, leading to cascading delays across key routes connected to Delhi.
Weather Conditions and Advisory
Weather officials indicated that dense to very dense fog conditions are typical during winter mornings in north India and are expected to persist over the next few days. Commuters were advised to plan their travel with caution, allow additional time, and follow official travel advisories. Authorities also urged motorists to drive carefully due to reduced visibility on roads.
