Delhi Faces Severe Air Pollution Again

Delhi’s air quality deteriorated sharply on Friday morning, with the overall Air Quality Index touching around 384, placing it in the “very poor” range. Several monitoring stations reported AQI readings beyond 400, pushing many parts of the city into the “severe” category. Authorities said pollution levels had risen overnight due to weather conditions that trapped pollutants close to the surface.

Pollution Hotspots Report Hazardous Levels

Areas such as Mundka and Rohini recorded some of the worst numbers, with AQI readings of 436 and 432. Other busy locations, including Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk and Jahangirpuri, also reported severe pollution. In the National Capital Region, Noida registered severe air quality, while Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram remained in the “very poor” category.

Weather And Emissions Behind The Spike

The sudden spike has been linked to cold temperatures, weak winds and early-morning fog that prevent pollutants from dispersing. Continued emissions from traffic, construction dust, industries and seasonal crop-residue burning in nearby states have further worsened the situation. Experts warn that unless strong winds or rain arrive, improvement is unlikely.

Health Advisory Issued

Health authorities have advised vulnerable groups to avoid outdoor activity. Doctors say prolonged exposure may trigger breathing difficulties, asthma attacks and cardiac stress. The situation is expected to remain critical over the next few days.
