Delhi CM Directs Implementation of Mahila Samridhi Yojana
In a decisive step towards fulfilling a key election promise, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to prepare guidelines for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, a welfare scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections. Under this initiative, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹2,500 per month to support their livelihoods.
During a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta discussed the urgency of implementing the scheme while also reviewing preparations for the upcoming 2025-26 annual budget.
Before the meeting, she paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, later sharing on X:
“Today I paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Honourable Narendra Modi ji at the Prime Minister’s residence. Under your guidance and leadership, the double engine government of BJP is committed to transforming the dreams of Delhiites into a developed Delhi by following the path of public welfare and good governance.”
Her discussions with officials primarily revolved around expediting the scheme and ensuring a smooth rollout process.
Mahila Samridhi Yojana Set for Launch by March 8
Following her meeting with the Prime Minister, Gupta held discussions with top officials at the Secretariat. She issued clear instructions:
“The officials have been asked to prepare guidelines for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana and work out details such as eligibility criteria and how the beneficiaries will be registered under the scheme to receive ₹2,500 in monthly allowances.”
The scheme, a significant component of the ruling party’s electoral commitments, is set for launch by March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The BJP had earlier assured that if voted to power, the scheme’s disbursement process would begin immediately.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, Finance Department officials, and cabinet ministers including Kapil Mishra, Parvesh Verma, and Ashish Sood. The officials provided a comprehensive overview of the state budget, discussing revenue generation and allocations under major government schemes.
Strengthening Women’s Welfare and Public Governance
Apart from policy matters, CM Gupta also took time to interact with acquaintances from her student years, recalling her early political journey. Reflecting on her experience, she shared on X:
“It is only possible in the world’s largest political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, that an ordinary worker gets the opportunity to take on such a huge responsibility. Meeting acquaintances from my student life today reminded me of my early struggles in student politics. I am overwhelmed by the affection and support I have received and thank the people of Delhi for their love.”
In a parallel development, Delhi’s newly appointed Home Minister Ashish Sood assumed office and convened his first official meeting. Addressing law and order concerns, Sood emphasized the importance of administrative efficiency and public safety, stating:
“Today, I took charge as the home minister of Delhi and held an important meeting with officials of the home department. Strengthening law and order and making administrative processes more effective were key points of discussion. I will ensure that the home department works with complete transparency and commitment. Our priority will be to focus on law and order, disaster management, and traffic regulation to make Delhi a city where every resident can live with dignity and pride.”
With these strategic initiatives, the Delhi government is making strides in enhancing women’s welfare and governance transparency, ensuring that financial aid reaches deserving beneficiaries without bureaucratic delays.
