Delhi Car Blast Probe: NIA Arrests Kashmir Resident
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a resident of Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the car explosion near the Red Fort in New Delhi. Authorities say the car used as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device was registered in his name and that he allegedly assisted the suicide bomber, identified as Umar Un Nabi from Pulwama district.
The blast, which occurred on November 10, killed eight people and injured at least 20 others. The case has been officially treated as a terrorist incident.
Details of the Case
Investigators found that the Kashmir resident, named Amir Rashid Ali from Samboora in Pampore, travelled to Delhi and helped procure the vehicle used in the attack. Forensic evidence reportedly linked the registered car to the explosion site and identified Umar Un Nabi as its driver. A second vehicle allegedly used by Nabi has also been seized for further examination.
The NIA is examining a potential larger terror network behind the attack and has questioned over 70 witnesses so far.
Implications and Ongoing Investigation
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the probe into the Red Fort car blast. Officials say the network may include individuals across multiple states and possibly foreign-based handlers. The government has reiterated its “zero-tolerance” stance on terrorism and warned of swift action against all involved. The case also raises concerns about security of high-profile locations in the capital. The investigation continues with further arrests and forensic work expected in the coming days.
