Delhi AQI Remains Very Poor, Dense Fog Disrupts Travel

New Delhi experienced another day of very poor air quality as pollution levels remained well above safe limits, compounded by dense fog that affected visibility across the city and parts of the National Capital Region. The situation raised health concerns and caused widespread disruption to daily life, especially during early morning hours.

Air Quality Continues to Worsen

The Air Quality Index in several monitoring stations across Delhi stayed in the “very poor” category, indicating high levels of harmful pollutants. Such conditions can aggravate respiratory illnesses and cause discomfort even among healthy individuals. Authorities advised residents, particularly children, senior citizens, and those with existing health conditions, to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.

Dense Fog Reduces Visibility

Alongside pollution, dense fog blanketed the city during the morning, sharply reducing visibility on roads and highways. Commuters reported slow-moving traffic and longer travel times as drivers exercised caution. Weather officials indicated that cold and calm wind conditions contributed to the persistence of fog, with similar conditions expected to continue intermittently.

Flight Operations Affected at Delhi Airport

Low visibility conditions disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Several flights were cancelled, while many others faced delays due to fog-related operational constraints. Airlines issued advisories requesting passengers to check flight status before leaving for the airport, leading to inconvenience for travellers.

Impact Across NCR

Neighbouring areas in the NCR also recorded poor air quality, adding to regional concerns. Pollution control measures under existing action plans remain in place as authorities monitor the situation closely.
