DeepSeek Nears $15 Billion AI Funding Deal
Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is close to completing a fundraising round worth approximately 100 billion yuan ($15 billion), marking one of China’s largest AI investments. The Hangzhou-based company has attracted major Chinese technology and industrial investors as it seeks to expand computing infrastructure, develop advanced AI models and compete with American companies including OpenAI and Anthropic.
DeepSeek Raises $15 Billion With Tencent and CATL
Tencent Holdings and battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) are reportedly among the largest investors in the funding round.
Other participants include Midea, Meituan, Geely and semiconductor manufacturer GigaDevice, alongside investment firms Boyu Capital, CPE, Legend Capital and IDG Capital.
More than 15 investors are reportedly participating in the fundraising, which has doubled from DeepSeek’s original target of 50 billion yuan.
The transaction remains subject to finalisation, and its financial terms could still change.
DeepSeek Valuation Reaches 500 Billion Yuan
The fundraising reportedly values DeepSeek at approximately 500 billion yuan ($75 billion) before the injection of fresh capital.
The company is also preparing for a potential initial public offering on China’s STAR Market, having engaged CITIC Securities for preliminary preparations.
The latest investment could help DeepSeek accelerate construction of AI data centres and strengthen its computing capabilities.
DeepSeek Expands Competition With OpenAI and Anthropic
DeepSeek has attracted international attention by developing relatively low-cost AI models capable of competing with leading American systems.
In September 2026, the company introduced DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, designed to improve processing speed, efficiency and scalability.
Its growing emphasis on open-source artificial intelligence has increased competitive pressure on domestic and international technology companies.
The fundraising reflects China’s expanding investment in artificial intelligence as Chinese developers seek to narrow the technological and financial gap with leading US laboratories.
