Debate on Operation Sindoor Backfired on Opposition – PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Opposition’s demand for a debate on Operation Sindoor ended up damaging their own credibility. According to Modi, instead of gaining political ground, the Opposition lost public trust by appearing unsupportive of the armed forces.

Operation Sindoor: National Security vs Politics

Operation Sindoor was launched following the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead. Modi stated that the operation achieved its goals by destroying over 100 terrorist camps and eliminating more than 100 terrorists. He clarified that the operation was not about capturing land, but about sending a clear and firm message to those involved in cross-border terrorism.

Opposition Accused of Weak National Stand

During the parliamentary discussion, the ruling party accused Opposition leaders of aligning with foreign narratives and lacking national will. The BJP particularly targeted the Congress party, alleging it had a long history of compromising national interest. The debate became a political flashpoint, with both sides exchanging strong words.

Nadda Defends Modi’s Role

Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, defended the Prime Minister’s absence from the Upper House during the debate. He said it was the government’s prerogative to decide who responds to such discussions. Nadda cited past instances where Prime Ministers chose not to attend similar debates.

Ceasefire Came at Pakistan’s Request

Modi added that no world power pressured India to stop the operation. He stated that it was Pakistan’s own military leadership that requested a ceasefire, after its key assets and infrastructure sustained heavy damage.

Strategic and Political Impact

The debate has now turned into a broader political battle. While the ruling alliance claims it has reaffirmed public trust in the government’s decisive action, the Opposition argues that critical issues such as intelligence failures and internal security lapses remain unaddressed. With elections in several states on the horizon, the fallout from this debate is expected to shape political narratives in the months ahead.
