Dear Swara Bhaskar, Stop Whitewashing History and Peddling Bollywood Lies
Dear Swara Bhaskar,
It is truly astonishing how individuals like yourself, who pride themselves on intellect and activism, can stoop so low as to dismiss the barbaric and well-documented history of Hindu persecution as mere “fiction.” Your recent comments regarding Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the supposed “filmy torture” of Hindus are not just ignorant—they are an insult to historical truth, to the sacrifices of brave warriors, and to the suffering of millions.
Sambhaji Maharaj’s Torture: A Brutal Reality, Not a Bollywood Fantasy
Unlike the utopian worlds Bollywood conveniently creates to sanitize uncomfortable truths, the torture of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was not scripted entertainment—it was historical fact. He was captured by Aurangzeb’s forces in 1689, brutally tortured for days in a desperate attempt to force him to convert to Islam. His eyes were gouged out, his tongue was cut, and his limbs were dismembered—all while he refused to forsake his faith. Eventually, he was beheaded, and his body was fed to dogs.
These are not creative liberties taken by a filmmaker to evoke emotion—these are hard facts documented by contemporary records and historians. Yet, you, Swara, in your infinite wisdom, choose to dismiss this reality while shedding tears over fictionalized narratives manufactured by Bollywood.
Bollywood’s Selective Fiction: Glorifying Pakistan, Demonizing Hindus
If there is any real “fiction” that needs to be called out, it is the deliberate distortions peddled by Bollywood to shape public perception. Consider films like 83, where it is laughably claimed that the Pakistani Army stopped artillery firing so that Indian soldiers could listen to the World Cup final commentary. Or take Main Hoon Na, where Hindus opposing “peace” with Pakistan are portrayed as villains. Worse still are the countless films that depict minorities in India as perpetual victims while completely ignoring the reality of religious cleansing suffered by Hindus for centuries.
Where is this same Bollywood when it comes to showcasing the atrocities of the Mughals? Where are the films that expose the horrors of the jizya tax, the forced conversions, the destruction of thousands of temples, or the massacre of Hindus in the name of Islamic expansion? The truth is, Bollywood has mastered the art of selective storytelling—conveniently ignoring the genocide of Hindus while fabricating narratives that demonize the very people who suffered the most.
Time to Call Out This Nonsense
Swara, your statements are not just an insult to history, but they are also a disgrace to the nation that has given you fame and fortune. Your deliberate downplaying of Hindu persecution is nothing short of historical revisionism. If you and others like you continue to peddle such brazen falsehoods, it is high time that authorities take action against such loudmouths and set an example.
Freedom of speech is not a license to distort historical truths or belittle the pain of an entire community. If actors, filmmakers, and so-called activists can be prosecuted for offending certain sections of society, why should people like you be given a free pass for mocking the suffering of Hindus and glorifying their oppressors?
Enough Is Enough
It is time for the Indian audience to wake up and reject these falsehoods. We must demand accountability from those who seek to rewrite history for their personal agendas. We must call upon the authorities to prosecute individuals who deliberately spread misinformation and insult our heroes. If Bollywood wants to continue glorifying Pakistan, fabricating atrocities against minorities in India, and whitewashing Islamic invasions, then it is time to question its credibility altogether.
Swara, history is not a script that can be rewritten to suit political ideologies. The sooner you realize this, the better. Until then, spare us your pseudo-intellectual nonsense.
Sincerely, A Citizen Who Knows History, Unlike You.
