Cyclone Ditwah Weakens Into Deep Depression
Cyclone Ditwah has weakened into a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, but heavy rainfall continues across several districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The India Meteorological Department said the system is moving northwards at nearly 10 km/h and is expected to weaken further during the day.
Heavy Rain Alerts Issued Across Districts
As of early Monday, the depression was located close to the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coast. Districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore and Ranipet remain under rain alerts. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in coastal and interior areas.
Rough Seas; Fishermen Asked to Stay Ashore
Sea conditions remain rough due to strong winds, prompting authorities to strictly warn fishermen against entering the sea. Disaster management teams have been deployed, and officials are monitoring low-lying zones prone to waterlogging.
Authorities Urge Caution as Rains Continue
With more rain expected through the day, residents have been advised to avoid coastal stretches and flooded roads. Local administrations have asked people to follow safety instructions and remain indoors until conditions stabilise.
