CSK Likely To Target Iyer In 2026 Auction
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has predicted that Chennai Super Kings will place a strong bid for Venkatesh Iyer during the 2026 Indian Premier League auction. According to Ashwin, Iyer fits CSK’s requirement for a middle-order batter who can also contribute with the ball. He also mentioned Nitish Rana as another possible option for the franchise.
Ashwin said the franchise may prefer strengthening its batting and all-round depth rather than focusing only on fast bowlers. The IPL 2026 auction is scheduled to be held on December 16.
Auction Strategy And Team Needs
After a disappointing 2025 season, CSK is expected to look for players who can offer flexibility in both batting and field placement. The franchise has previously used multi-role players to maintain balance. Ashwin suggested CSK may still pick bowlers but would not prioritise them over proven all-round options.
Teams across the league are preparing for intense bidding, as several known names are expected to be released. Auction dynamics may change quickly, depending on purse availability and retention lists.
Gaza Truce Could Enter Second Phase Soon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan is almost complete. He stated that only one final condition remains before moving to the second phase — the return of the remains of the last Israeli hostage held in Gaza.
Netanyahu added that the next phase is expected to include disarmament discussions, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and a possible deployment of an international security force to oversee the area.
Difficult Negotiations Ahead
Officials warned that the second phase will be more complex and may take longer to implement. Issues around security control, civilian administration and long-term stability remain unresolved. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing through mediators.
Hamas has not committed to full disarmament but has indicated willingness to discuss arrangements. International partners are closely watching developments, as any change could affect regional stability.
