CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh has assured personnel of institutional support for legitimate decisions taken in the line of duty. His remarks came amid scrutiny of the Rapid Action Force’s response to the July 20 anti-paper leak protest in Delhi.

Addressing a CRPF investiture ceremony on July 27, Singh asked personnel to perform their responsibilities without fear or hesitation.
He said he would accept responsibility and accountability for decisions and actions taken in the bona fide discharge of official duties. The assurance covered both operational battalions and units deployed for maintaining law and order.
CRPF headquarters has also praised the endurance and patience demonstrated by personnel during recent challenging deployments.
Unjustified Actions Could Invite Punishment
The force clarified that institutional backing would apply only to legitimate decisions taken in accordance with operational requirements, established procedures and the law.
Reckless, unauthorised or unjustified conduct could still lead to disciplinary proceedings under CRPF regulations and other applicable laws.
The distinction is intended to reassure field personnel while maintaining accountability for violations of standard operating procedures.
RAF Action During Delhi Protest Reviewed
The remarks came as the RAF examines allegations of disproportionate force during the July 20 march towards Parliament.
Official deployment records reportedly show that personnel used tear gas, anti-riot weapons and two rounds of non-lethal plastic pellets while attempting to control the situation.
The internal review is examining videos, operational records and statements from personnel and commanding officers. A formal inquiry could be ordered if the review identifies violations of established procedures.
The controversy has also reached Parliament and the Supreme Court, intensifying scrutiny of the proportionality and legality of the security response.
