A youth cricket coach in Puducherry, S Venkataraman, has alleged that three players assaulted him after they were left out of the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The incident took place at a local practice ground, where the coach was reportedly attacked with a bat.
Injuries and police case
Venkataraman suffered multiple injuries, including a deep head wound that required stitches and a suspected shoulder fracture. He registered a complaint with the police, stating that the players tried to kill him. An FIR has been filed at the Sedarapet police station, and officers confirmed that the accused are currently absconding.
Cricket officials condemn attack
Local cricket officials described the assault as unacceptable and said strict action must follow. They added that disagreements over team selection should never lead to violence. The association has promised full cooperation with the police investigation.
