Crane Collapse on Train Kills at Least 22 in Thailand

At least 22 people were killed after a construction crane fell onto a passenger train in northeastern Thailand, triggering one of the deadliest rail accidents in recent years.

Accident During Rail Journey

The incident occurred when a crane at a construction site collapsed onto a moving passenger train in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The train was travelling from Bangkok toward northeastern Thailand at the time of the accident. Several coaches derailed after the impact, and parts of the train were badly damaged.

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

Officials said dozens of passengers were injured, some critically. Emergency services, including firefighters, medical teams, and disaster response units, rushed to the site to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. Rescue operations continued for several hours amid difficult conditions.

Investigation Ordered

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine why the crane collapsed and whether safety protocols were followed at the construction site. Rail services on the affected route were suspended temporarily as officials assessed damage and cleared debris.

The Thai government expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said support would be provided to those affected.
