Congress Slams BJP Over Party Chief Selection

The Indian National Congress criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party after it announced Nitin Nabin as its new national president, saying the process lacked a genuine election. Congress leaders said the BJP declared the president first and then spoke of an “election,” calling the exercise predetermined and not a real vote.

Opposition’s Remarks on Election Process

At a press briefing, a Congress spokesperson questioned the role of the Chief Election Commissioner, saying that officials had no meaningful part to play in what the party described as a staged process. The opposition mocked the BJP’s claim about holding an internal election, suggesting the announcement was made without proper voting. They also dismissed remarks about internal party hierarchy as political posturing.

BJP’s Position

The BJP maintained that it followed its organisational procedures for leadership change, with party officials issuing the formal declaration and handing over the certificate to Nitin Nabin, who becomes the youngest national president of the party. Party supporters said the process reflected internal consensus and smooth transition.

Political Context

The criticism comes amid broader political exchanges between India’s two largest national parties, with opposition leaders frequently challenging the BJP’s actions on election integrity and democratic norms.
