Congress Releases First Kerala List Of 55

The Congress has announced its first list of 55 candidates for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, giving the party’s campaign a formal start while leaving some politically sensitive decisions pending. The list includes several senior leaders and sitting legislators, but the party has not yet taken a final call on Members of Parliament who are interested in entering the State contest.

Congress Releases First List For Kerala Polls

The first list confirms several high-profile names in the Congress campaign for Kerala. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan will contest from Paravur, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph from Peravoor, and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala from Haripad. Chandy Oommen has also been fielded from Puthuppally, continuing the party’s effort to retain key seats with familiar faces and established local leaders.

Senior Leaders Get Key Assembly Seats

The candidate list shows that Congress is relying heavily on experienced leaders in the opening phase of the campaign. The move suggests the party wants to project stability and organisational clarity in what it sees as a critical election. By naming prominent figures early, Congress appears to be trying to build momentum and reassure workers after internal delays over ticket distribution and seat-level disagreements.

Decision Pending On MPs Wishing To Contest

Even after releasing the first list, Congress has kept a decision pending on MPs who want to contest the Assembly election. That issue had reportedly become one of the sticking points during the party’s internal consultations. The unresolved question means more candidate announcements are still to come, and the next list will be closely watched for signs of how the party balances parliamentary leadership with state-level electoral strategy in Kerala.
