Congress MP Calls Operation Sindoor a “Tamasha”
Congress MP Praniti Shinde on Monday referred to Operation Sindoor as a “tamasha” in the Lok Sabha, sparking controversy and sharp responses from the ruling benches. She accused the government of turning the military action into a media event and demanded greater transparency on what was actually achieved.
Shinde asked whether any aircraft were lost, how many terrorists were eliminated, and what accountability had been fixed in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. She questioned the government’s handling of the situation and said the operation raised more questions than it answered.
Remarks Expunged from Record
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha ordered that the word “tamasha” be expunged from the official records. Parliamentary rules allow the Speaker to strike out words deemed unparliamentary or inappropriate for the House proceedings.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Defends Operation
In response, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh strongly defended Operation Sindoor. He said that the mission achieved its objectives with precision and without the loss of Indian soldiers. Singh stated that more than 100 terrorists were neutralized and terror camps across the border were destroyed in a limited timeframe. He rejected the opposition’s criticism as an attempt to downplay India’s strategic success.
Larger Political Dispute Over Sindoor
Shinde’s remarks reflect a wider opposition demand for clarity on the effectiveness and intent of Operation Sindoor. Several opposition leaders have questioned the government’s handling of the April 22 Pahalgam attack and the military response that followed.
While the government claims the operation was a major counter-terror success, the opposition argues that the lack of independent verification, vague casualty claims, and limited public transparency raise doubts. The debate over Operation Sindoor has become a flashpoint in the larger political narrative surrounding national security and accountability.
