Congress Announces First List of 21 Candidates for Jharkhand Polls

The Congress Party on Monday released its first list of 21 candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. Ajoy Kumar has been named as the party’s candidate for the Jamshedpur East constituency.

The announcement came just hours after finalizing a seat-sharing arrangement with Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Key Candidates Announced by Congress

Among the notable candidates on the list are Irfan Ansari from Jamtara, Ajoy Kumar from Jamshedpur East, Banna Gupta from Jamshedpur West, Badal Patralekh from Jarmundi, and Pradeep Yadav from Poreyahat. Under the seat-sharing agreement, Congress will contest 29 seats, JMM will field candidates in 41 constituencies, RJD will contest 6 seats, and Left parties will field candidates in 4 seats. One seat has been reserved for a minor party.

Jharkhand Polls to Be Held in Two Phases

The Jharkhand Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also revealed its seat-sharing formula last week, with the BJP contesting 68 seats, AJSU Party 10 seats, JD(U) 2 seats, and LJP (Ram Vilas) 1 seat.

The filing of nomination papers for the 43 constituencies set to vote in the first phase on November 13 is currently underway and will continue until October 25.
