Colombia Earthquake Kills 22, Buildings Collapse
A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 22 people and causing widespread structural damage across several cities. The tremor was felt across all 32 departmental capitals, triggering evacuations and emergency rescue operations.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Pereira, where 18 people were killed. Three deaths were reported in nearby Manizales, while another person died in Buenaventura after a building collapsed.
Emergency teams continued searching damaged structures for survivors, with people reported trapped beneath rubble in several locations. In Cali, more than two dozen buildings collapsed and authorities identified several critical areas requiring emergency assistance.
7.4 Magnitude Quake Hits Western Colombia
The earthquake struck at 7:34 am local time, with its epicentre located near San Jose del Palmar in Choco province on Colombia’s Pacific coast.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 96 kilometres. Despite its strength, authorities said there was no tsunami threat along the Pacific coast.
Significant damage and injuries were also reported in Quibdo, where residents were warned to remain alert for possible aftershocks.
Airports Suspended After Colombia Earthquake
Flights were temporarily suspended at airports in Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago and Buenaventura while authorities carried out structural inspections.
The tremor was felt across nine Colombian departments and as far away as parts of neighbouring Venezuela.
Rescue and disaster-response operations remain underway as authorities assess damaged buildings and search for people who may still be trapped.
