CM Siddaramaiah Seeks Wipro Help to Ease ORR Traffic
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Wipro founder Azim Premji requesting limited vehicular access through Wipro’s campus along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The move is aimed at reducing heavy traffic congestion, especially around the Iblur junction during peak hours.
Traffic Crisis
Commuters along the ORR corridor have long complained about severe jams, especially in the IT corridor. Officials say daily congestion affects productivity and causes delays.
Proposed Solution
The CM’s letter suggests that allowing controlled transit through parts of Wipro’s campus could relieve pressure on adjacent roads. He emphasized this would be under mutually agreed terms, with attention to security and campus operations.
Expected Outcomes
If the proposal is accepted, traffic flow through problem stretches could improve during peak periods. However, implementing this will require coordination between the state government and Wipro, along with traffic and security planning.
Challenges Ahead
While the idea is seen as unconventional, some urban planners caution that such campus-access solutions may only offer partial relief without broader infrastructure improvements. Issues like road maintenance, alternate routes, public transport capacity, and enforcement would also need to be addressed.
