Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced the abolition of the garbage tax imposed during the previous YSRC regime, as part of his efforts to promote cleanliness and civic responsibility across the state. Garbage Tax Abolished, Cabinet to Ratify Decision
“I ask my officials not to collect garbage tax, and the decision will be ratified in the ensuing Cabinet meeting,” CM Naidu declared, underscoring his commitment to eliminating the tax burden on citizens and promoting a cleaner Andhra Pradesh. The move is expected to be formalized in the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
Swachh Andhra Initiative and Citizen Participation
During the event, the Chief Minister called upon every citizen to become a Swachh Sevak and contribute to the state’s mission of achieving a Swachh Andhra Pradesh by 2029. Naidu emphasized that sanitation workers play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and that their efforts should be recognized and respected.
“Everyone should respect sanitation workers as they are the real Swachh Sevaks, and no one should talk ill of them. We are now feeling healthy and moving on neat roads only because of the hard work of sanitation workers. I wholeheartedly appreciate their efforts,” he stated.
Bandar Port Development by 2025
In addition to his emphasis on cleanliness, Naidu also shared updates on the Bandar (Machilipatnam) Port project. He assured the public that the port would be completed by December 2025, aiming to restore the port town’s historical prominence and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Local Freedom Fighters
The Chief Minister paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle, noting that Gandhian values of non-violence and service remain relevant and inspiring for future generations. He also highlighted the contributions of Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the Indian national flag, who presented his design to Gandhi in 1921. Naidu affirmed that the role of Machilipatnam in the freedom movement would always be remembered.
Through this initiative, CM Naidu aims to motivate citizens to actively participate in the Swachh Andhra mission and create a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations. The decision to abolish the garbage tax marks a significant step towards encouraging civic engagement and reinforcing the state’s commitment to cleanliness.
