CJP Weighs Fresh Nationwide Protest Against Centre
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned that it could launch another nationwide agitation if the Union government fails to honour commitments made when the group suspended its protests on July 25. The organisation’s National Working Committee is meeting on August 24 to review the government’s response and decide its next course of action.
CJP Reviews Centre’s Post-Protest Commitments
CJP said it suspended its earlier nationwide agitation after receiving assurances from the government during negotiations with protesters.
The organisation claims that government representatives have not formally communicated the steps taken to implement several commitments. CJP said these include resolving criminal cases registered against protesters, protecting peaceful demonstrators from future punitive action and addressing compensation demands involving families of deceased NEET aspirants.
CJP has asked students, young citizens, supporters and volunteers across the country to remain prepared for the outcome of Monday’s meeting.
Supreme Court FIR Proceedings Fuel CJP Concerns
The renewed warning follows Supreme Court proceedings on August 18 involving FIRs registered against students and protesters.
CJP claimed that the court repeatedly sought a consolidated list of such FIRs from the Centre while considering whether its powers under Article 142 could be used to resolve the cases. The organisation alleged that the government did not commit to providing the requested list.
No judicial finding has established that the Centre breached any agreement with CJP.
Fresh CJP Nationwide Protest Remains an Option
CJP said another peaceful nationwide agitation remains among the options being considered if it concludes that the government has delayed, diluted or failed to honour its commitments.
The organisation’s earlier protest movement ended after several rounds of negotiations and the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, one of the protesters’ key demands.
