CJP Threatens Fresh Protest Over FIRs
The Cockroach Janta Party has warned that it could resume its agitation if FIRs registered against protesters are not withdrawn and detained students are not released. The warning came shortly after the organisation ended its 37-day protest following talks with the Union government.
CJP Demands Withdrawal of Protest FIRs
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka called upon the Centre to ensure that charges filed against students, volunteers and other demonstrators are withdrawn immediately.
Ranka said the organisation had ended its protest after receiving assurances that no punitive action would be taken against participants. He warned that the CJP would return to the protest site if the reported agreement was not implemented.
The organisation has also demanded a copy of the written understanding reached during discussions with the government.
CJP Raises Concern Over Student Detentions
CJP leaders said they had received reports of protesters being detained or arrested in Bihar, Assam and West Bengal.
Spokesperson Saurav Das urged Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh to intervene and ensure that no coercive or retaliatory action is taken against demonstrators.
Student organisations have also demanded the release of those detained and the withdrawal of serious criminal charges registered during protests in different states.
Fresh Protest Warning Issued to Centre
The CJP ended its nationwide agitation on July 25 after the government reportedly accepted several of the movement’s demands.
These included examination reforms, compensation for families affected by student suicides and protection for peaceful protesters from prosecution.
The organisation has said that continued arrests, fresh FIRs or alleged harassment of demonstrators would violate the assurances given during negotiations. It warned that another protest could be launched if the demands were not implemented.
