CJP Calls October 10 Delhi March Against CEC
The Cockroach Janta Party has announced a march to Delhi and a fresh protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, escalating its campaign over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
CJP Announces October 10 Delhi Protest
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the “Chalo Delhi” call after a protest in Mumbai, saying supporters from across the country would gather at Jantar Mantar if Kumar remained in office.
Dipke said the demonstration would be peaceful and invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s approach to non-violent protest. He also said that if police stopped demonstrators before they reached Jantar Mantar, they would continue their protest wherever they were halted.
The campaign has called on citizens concerned about free and fair elections to participate.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar Resignation Demand Intensifies
The movement is centred on allegations surrounding the Special Intensive Revision exercise and reports of internal disagreements within the Election Commission.
Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were reported to have raised objections during internal deliberations on several SIR-related matters. The Election Commission has said such operational inputs are part of normal administrative processes and has maintained that final institutional decisions were taken through established procedures.
Opposition parties and several student and civil society groups have separately demanded Kumar’s resignation.
Delhi Police Face Fresh Protest Mobilisation
The October 10 demonstration follows protests in Delhi and Mumbai earlier this week, during which hundreds of demonstrators were detained.
Delhi Police had imposed extensive security restrictions around Jantar Mantar, including barricading and temporary Metro station closures.
The fresh CJP mobilisation is expected to keep the SIR controversy and Election Commission functioning at the centre of the political debate.
