CJI Flags Supreme Court Metro Station Closure
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has said he will intervene if the closure of the Supreme Court Metro station is not resolved, after lawyers raised concerns about restricted access to the court.

Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh raised the issue before the Chief Justice on Thursday morning, saying the station’s closure was making it difficult for lawyers, litigants and Registry employees to reach the court.
Singh proposed allowing people carrying valid Supreme Court entry passes or official identification to exit at the station after security screening. Other passengers could remain aboard and continue to the next operational station.
The Chief Justice said the Supreme Court administration had already been directed to discuss possible arrangements with Delhi Metro authorities. He added that he would personally intervene if no solution emerged by lunchtime.
Lawyers Seek Restricted Metro Access
The Bar Association argued that restricted access could balance security requirements with the need to maintain uninterrupted access to the country’s highest court.
Under the proposal, lawyers, litigants and court employees carrying proximity cards or authorised passes would undergo checks before leaving the station. Singh also suggested that the issue could be considered judicially if administrative discussions failed to produce a solution.
The Chief Justice informed the Bar that a circular had been issued directing courts not to pass adverse orders solely because lawyers were unable to appear due to the transport restrictions.
Delhi Metro Stations Closed Amid Protest
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation suspended entry and exit at 16 stations across central Delhi on Thursday, citing security concerns linked to the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar.
Interchange facilities remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat. The restrictions affected access to major government, judicial and commercial areas, while authorities did not initially announce a reopening time.
