Chirag Paswan Slams Nitish Kumar Over Bihar Crime Surge

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Despite being part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Paswan expressed that he feels “ashamed” to support a government that, in his view, has failed to protect its citizens and is unable to maintain public safety. He accused the administration of surrendering before criminals and warned that the situation could spiral out of control if swift corrective steps are not taken.

Crimes on the Rise, Public Anger Grows

Paswan cited several recent incidents, including murders, gang rapes, burglaries, and targeted killings, as examples of Bihar’s worsening security environment. He acknowledged that arrests have been made in some cases but said the frequency of such crimes suggests a deep-rooted administrative failure. Among the most shocking cases were a gang rape in an ambulance in Gaya, the murder of a businessman in Patna, and a series of killings of prominent traders and citizens.

NDA Allies at Crossroads

Paswan’s criticism is particularly significant given his party’s alliance with Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) in the NDA. His remarks reflect growing discomfort within the alliance as the state heads into an election year. Paswan did not rule out that some criminal activities may be politically motivated to damage the government’s image, but he insisted that the state leadership must still be held accountable.

JD(U) Defends Government Action

The JD(U) responded to Paswan’s comments by defending the government’s efforts. Party leaders highlighted that over 100 fast-track courts are being set up to handle serious crimes and said the police remain active and alert. They also pushed back against the narrative of rising crime, suggesting that political opponents should ensure their own party cadres are not linked to unlawful activities.

Bihar First vs Broken System

Paswan reiterated his party’s “Bihar First, Bihari First” vision, which aims to prioritise youth employment, safety, and governance over caste and coalition politics. He urged the Nitish Kumar government to act swiftly to restore confidence among the people. According to Paswan, law and order is the foundation for growth and employment and must be addressed urgently if Bihar is to break out of its cycle of underdevelopment and political friction.

As elections near, this sharp rebuke from an NDA ally may further complicate political dynamics in the state. With crime and governance now at the center of the public debate, Nitish Kumar’s administration faces mounting pressure to deliver results.
