China’s FM Wang Yi to Visit India August 18–20

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India from August 18 to 20 for high-level talks focusing on the boundary dispute and broader bilateral relations.

High-Level Border Diplomacy

During his visit, Wang Yi is expected to meet India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval under the Special Representatives mechanism to address ongoing boundary issues. This will be only the second such bilateral visit since the violent clashes in 2020 along the Himalayan border.

Easing Tensions amid Thawing Relations

The trip comes at a time when tensions between India and China have begun to ease following last year’s agreement to resume joint patrolling in some areas. The talks are being viewed as an important step toward further stabilizing relations.

SCO Summit and Bilateral Momentum

The visit will also set the stage for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming trip to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin later this month, where he is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The timing underscores a renewed push for diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
