China Warns U.S. Against Tariff Pressure, Stresses Equal Dialogue

China has issued a stern warning to the United States following Washington’s latest decision to sharply raise tariffs on Chinese imports to 125%. As trade tensions between the two global powers escalate, Beijing has made it clear that pressure tactics and threats will not yield results.

In a pointed statement, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yongqian said, “China’s position is clear and consistent. If the U.S. wants to talk, our door remains open, but dialogue must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and equality.” He added that “pressure, threats, and blackmail are not the right way to deal with China,” underscoring Beijing’s rejection of what it sees as coercive diplomatic behavior.

U.S.-China Trade Tensions Deepen

The conflict escalated after the U.S. government, under former President Donald Trump’s policies, decided to exclude China from a temporary 90-day tariff suspension granted to other nations. Washington justified its stance by citing what it called Beijing’s retaliatory escalation, referring to China’s move to hike duties on U.S. goods to 84%, up from the previously declared 34%.

This tit-for-tat tariff battle reflects deepening mistrust between the two countries, each accusing the other of unjust trade practices. The recent increase by the U.S. is seen as a strategic move to pressure China into concessions, while China views it as yet another attempt to destabilize its economic sovereignty.

China Holds Firm on Equal Negotiation

Despite the tension, China continues to express its willingness to engage in dialogue—albeit one rooted in equality. Reiterating its stance against unilateralism, the Chinese official emphasized that “a trade war does no good to either side,” warning that if the U.S. continues to escalate, China is prepared to “follow through to the end.”

China’s position reflects a broader shift toward asserting its interests more aggressively in global trade negotiations. As both sides brace for the next phase of confrontation, the global economic community remains on edge over the long-term impact of this ongoing tariff war.
