China Urges Japan To Restore Normal Trade Ties
China’s Ministry of Commerce has called on Japan to reverse recent remarks and actions regarding Taiwan, urging Tokyo to create conditions conducive for normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
What China Says
At a regular press briefing, a ministry spokesperson said Japan must “correct its erroneous words and deeds on Taiwan” to repair the political foundation of bilateral relations. Beijing asserted that recent comments from Tokyo have damaged trust and warned that Tokyo bears “unshirkable responsibility.”
Context: Strained Relations Over Taiwan
The demands come amid rising tensions between Beijing and Tokyo after Japan’s new leadership made statements perceived by China as provocative over Taiwan. Beijing has claimed that these remarks have severely hurt trade cooperation, with officials saying that economic ties have already suffered “great harm.”
What This Means For Trade
Analysts warn that unless Japan addresses Beijing’s concerns, bilateral trade and economic exchanges could remain under strain. Japanese businesses and exporters may face uncertainty, as China remains one of Japan’s top trade partners. Restoring confidence, observers say, will require diplomatic reassurance and clarity on Taiwan-related policy from Tokyo.
