China Rejects US Report, Says Ready to Build Trust With India
China has rejected a recent United States defence report that suggested Beijing was using improved border conditions with India to weaken New Delhi’s ties with Washington. Chinese officials described the report as misleading and accused the US of attempting to sow discord between regional partners.
Willingness to Improve India Relations
Responding to questions on the report, China’s foreign ministry said it views relations with India from a long-term and strategic perspective. Beijing stated it is ready to enhance communication, strengthen mutual trust and expand cooperation with New Delhi. Officials added that the situation along the Line of Actual Control remains generally stable and should be addressed through dialogue between the two countries.
Border Issue Seen as Bilateral Matter
China reiterated that the boundary question with India is a bilateral issue and opposed what it called interference by third parties. It maintained that recent efforts to manage tensions along the border were the result of direct engagement between Beijing and New Delhi rather than external pressure.
Evasive on Pakistan Relationship
While strongly countering the US assessment on India ties, China avoided giving direct answers on its relationship with Pakistan, which was also referenced in the report. Beijing said external reports had distorted facts regarding its regional partnerships but did not elaborate further on cooperation with Islamabad.
Broader Diplomatic Context
The exchange highlights ongoing strategic competition between China and the United States and its spillover into South Asia. Analysts say China’s remarks are aimed at reassuring India about bilateral intentions while firmly rejecting narratives framed by external powers.
