China Outlines New Five-Year Plan Under Xi Leadership

Xi Jinping delivered a keynote address at a closed-door session of the Communist Party of China’s fourth plenary meeting in Beijing. The gathering brought together around 200 full members and 170 alternate members of the Central Committee.

Focus of the 2026-2030 Blueprint

The meeting centred on the draft of China’s 15th five-year plan covering 2026-2030. While detailed targets were not made public, state media highlighted priorities including “high-quality” economic growth, technological innovation, national security, and distributing economic benefits more broadly.

Responding to Economic and External Pressures

The drafting of the plan comes amid slowing growth, regulatory challenges in the property sector, and heightened U.S.–China tensions involving technology and trade. Analysts expect this plan to emphasise strategic autonomy and domestic consumption rather than just growth numbers.
