China-India Seek Stability in Diplomatic Talks
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi, marking Wang’s first visit to India in more than three years. Both leaders emphasized the need for candid and constructive talks to repair ties. Jaishankar stressed that maintaining peace and de-escalation at the border is critical for progress. He also raised concerns over trade restrictions and cross-border terrorism, while underlining the importance of global economic stability amid rising protectionism.
China Calls for Partnership, Not Rivalry
Wang Yi urged that China and India develop a correct strategic understanding by seeing each other as partners rather than rivals. He called on both sides to meet halfway, expand cooperation, and remove unnecessary interference between the two countries.
Special Representatives’ Talks and Modi’s Role
The visit is expected to pave the way for broader engagements. Wang will hold the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of Modi’s planned trip to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
Focus Areas of Discussion
The discussions cover a range of issues including peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), trade facilitation, religious pilgrimages, people-to-people exchanges, and improving connectivity. Both sides agreed that stabilizing relations is essential for regional and global security.
