China Envoy Says India And China Cannot Be Parted
China’s ambassador to India has said the two countries are neighbours that cannot be separated, while calling for stronger cooperation and warning against outside forces trying to widen differences. The remarks come at a time when New Delhi and Beijing are attempting to stabilise ties after years of border tension and strategic mistrust.
China Envoy Says India And China Cannot Be Parted
Chinese ambassador Xu Feihong said India and China are neighbours that cannot be moved apart and should pursue development through their own efforts while supporting each other’s success. He said both countries are at a critical stage of development and national rejuvenation, and should focus on mutually beneficial cooperation.
Beijing Takes Indirect Swipe At United States
The envoy also appeared to take an indirect swipe at the United States by saying the progress made by India and China was not the result of someone else’s generosity. The comment came after recent remarks from a senior US official about Washington’s approach to India and China. Xu said some people deliberately amplify differences, promote a so-called China threat, and seek to profit from discord between the two Asian neighbours.
China Calls For Global South Coordination
Xu also said India and China, as major members of the Global South, should strengthen communication and coordination to protect the interests of developing countries. He said the world is facing rising unilateralism, protectionism and hegemonism, and argued that the two countries should work together to promote a more stable and cooperative international order.
