China and UN Warn Pakistan Over Terror Spillover from Afghanistan

China and the United Nations have jointly warned that terrorist threats spilling over from Afghanistan could affect Pakistan’s security. At a high-level briefing on counter-terrorism, the Chinese representative at the UN said the Central Asia region faces risks from cross-border militant activity and urged Pakistan to work with Afghanistan to address them.

The UN Secretary-General also raised concerns about groups operating from Afghan territory that may target neighbouring countries, including Pakistan. He stressed that no armed groups should be allowed to use Afghanistan as a base for attacks and called for stronger regional cooperation to prevent violence spilling into other nations.

Pakistan’s Reaction

Pakistani officials have repeatedly expressed concern about militant groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), using safe havens along the Afghan border to launch attacks. Islamabad maintains that coordination and evidence-based action are needed to curb cross-border terrorism and ensure regional stability. Pakistan has also called on the international community to press the Taliban authorities in Kabul to prevent Afghan soil being used for militant operations.

The warnings by China and the UN signal growing international attention to regional security amid ongoing instability in Afghanistan and neighbouring states.
