Children Under 10 File 43% Of Pollution-Linked Insurance Claims
Children under the age of ten accounted for 43 percent of all health insurance claims related to air-pollution in India, based on a recent report by an insurance aggregator. The data shows that this age group far outpaces other age brackets in pollution-triggered health issues. Adults aged 31-40 contributed 14 percent of such claims, while those over 60 accounted for just 7 percent.
Urban Centres Lead Claims
The report identifies the major urban centres with the highest volume of pollution-linked claims, with Delhi leading the list. Bengaluru and Hyderabad follow behind in terms of claim ratios. The insurance data covered multiple cities and spanned several years, showing a clear pattern of rising health costs and more frequent hospitalisations associated with deteriorating air quality.
Health Costs And Seasonal Trends
Average claim amounts for pollution-related illnesses are around ₹55,000, and the average daily hospital cost reaches about ₹19,000. Treatment costs have increased by roughly 11 percent year-on-year. A seasonal spike in claims is evident after the Diwali festival, when air quality worsens significantly due to fireworks and stubble-burning, forcing a surge in hospital visits for respiratory and cardiac conditions.
