Chabahar Port Undamaged After US Strikes – MEA
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that the Chabahar Port terminal in Iran remained undamaged following reported United States strikes near the strategically important facility. The clarification came amid concerns about the security of infrastructure surrounding the port.
Chabahar Port Terminal Remains Undamaged
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had reviewed reports of strikes near Chabahar Port and confirmed that the terminal itself had suffered no damage.
Reports indicated that the military action may have affected other infrastructure in the area, including a surveillance tower used to monitor commercial shipping. However, the extent of any damage outside the operational terminal was not immediately confirmed.
The strikes were reported amid escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran, which have raised concerns about commercial activity and critical infrastructure across the Gulf region.
India Reviews Chabahar Port Cooperation
India remains engaged with relevant stakeholders over the future of its involvement in the Chabahar Port project. Discussions have continued following the expiry of a United States sanctions waiver that had allowed India to participate in the development and operation of the facility.
New Delhi has not announced any change to its engagement with the strategic project. The port remains an important component of India’s regional trade and connectivity plans.
Chabahar Port Is Strategically Important
Located on Iran’s southeastern coast along the Gulf of Oman, Chabahar Port provides India with access to Afghanistan and Central Asia without relying on transit routes through Pakistan.
The facility is considered one of India’s most important overseas connectivity projects. It supports trade routes linking the Indian Ocean with inland markets across the region.
The MEA’s confirmation that the terminal remains intact provides reassurance over its operational condition as regional military tensions continue.
