Centre Rejects Rahul Gandhi Claims On US Trade Deal
The Union government has dismissed criticism by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the India–US trade agreement, stating that farmers’ interests remain protected under the proposed framework.
India US Trade Deal Government Response
Government officials said negotiations with the United States are focused on balanced market access and do not compromise domestic agricultural protections. They added that sensitive sectors have been safeguarded through tariff structures and regulatory measures.
The Centre maintained that discussions are ongoing and any final agreement would prioritise national economic interests while expanding export opportunities.
Farmers Interests Protection Assurances
Authorities emphasised that agricultural products crucial to rural livelihoods would not face unrestricted imports. Protective clauses, quality standards and phased commitments are expected to remain part of the deal structure.
Officials said the agreement aims to increase trade volumes without exposing farmers to sudden competition or price shocks.
Political Debate Over Trade Negotiations
Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the proposed deal could negatively affect Indian farmers. The government responded that the claims were inaccurate and reiterated that consultations with stakeholders continue before finalisation.
The administration also highlighted potential gains in services, manufacturing and technology sectors through improved market access and investment flows.
