Centre Picks Tharoor to Lead Global Pakistan Terror Blitz

In a striking move signalling bipartisan unity, the Indian government has tapped Congress MP Shashi Tharoor to lead an international parliamentary delegation aimed at exposing Pakistan’s terror links globally. This development comes in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, India’s bold military retaliation following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The government plans to dispatch a 40-member multi-party delegation across seven regional clusters, each expected to visit 4–5 countries over a span of ten days, starting around May 22 or 23. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), supported by other central ministries, is coordinating the effort and will provide diplomatic and logistical assistance throughout the mission.

This delegation will focus on presenting evidence of Pakistan’s continued support for terror networks like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The objective is to brief lawmakers, media, and policy think tanks in Europe, West Asia, and beyond.

Congress Welcomes Move, Takes a Dig at BJP

The Congress party, while backing the mission, wasted no time in taking a jab at the BJP. The Kerala Congress wing wrote on social media, “At a time when Prime Minister Modi and his External Affairs Minister have lost credibility internationally, the nation needs a voice that commands respect.”

It further added, “We appreciate the government for recognising the talent vacuum within the BJP and choosing a Congress leader to represent the country.”

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh confirmed that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had initiated discussions with the party leadership. Other Congress leaders like Manish Tewari, Salman Khurshid, and Amar Singh have also reportedly been approached to join the global mission.

A Bipartisan Campaign to Corner Pakistan

The Centre’s strategy is designed to be inclusive and bipartisan. In addition to Tharoor, the delegation will include Anurag Thakur and Aparajita Sarangi from the BJP, Sudip Bandyopadhyay from the TMC, Kanimozhi from the DMK, Supriya Sule from the NCP (SP), Sanjay Jha from the JDU, Sasmit Patra from the BJD, John Brittas from the CPI(M), and Asaduddin Owaisi from AIMIM.

Together, they will push India’s narrative in key capitals, arguing that Pakistan’s terror sponsorship undermines global peace. The mission will be backed by comprehensive dossiers being prepared by the MEA, Home Ministry, and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, detailing Pakistan’s alleged involvement in cross-border terrorism and its links with UN-sanctioned terror entities.

By involving lawmakers across the political divide, the Indian government seeks to present a united front and amplify its credibility abroad. The strategy marks a rare moment of political cohesion amid rising domestic polarization.
