Centre Blocks Revanth Reddy’s US Visit

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has cancelled the United States leg of his foreign tour after the Ministry of External Affairs denied political clearance for the visit. Reddy, currently in the United Kingdom, will return to Hyderabad on August 23 instead of travelling to Boston as originally scheduled.

MEA Denies Clearance for Revanth Reddy US Visit

The Chief Minister began a planned 10-day UK-US tour on August 20 with a Telangana Rising delegation focused on establishing partnerships with leading educational institutions.

The Telangana government had sought approval for the trip on August 16. While the UK portion received clearance, the proposed US programme was not approved.

The MEA said overseas visits by chief ministers and other dignitaries are assessed before political clearance is granted. It said the proposed programme must be appropriate to the office held and the stated purpose of the visit, and that the US itinerary did not meet that assessment.

Telangana Delegation to Continue US Tour

Despite cancelling his own US visit, Reddy has directed other members of the Telangana delegation to proceed with their scheduled engagements.

The delegation is expected to pursue proposed memoranda of understanding and partnerships with institutions including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.

Revanth Reddy Pushes Hyderabad Education Plans

Reddy said the purpose of the international outreach was to attract leading global education and skills institutions to Telangana and expand opportunities for students.

During his UK visit, he is scheduled to engage with representatives from institutions including Oxford and Cambridge. The Chief Minister has said his broader objective is to develop Hyderabad into a global education and knowledge hub by attracting internationally recognised universities and training institutions.
