CBI Arrests Punjab DIG in Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Punjab’s Ropar Range, over alleged corruption and bribery.

Seizures from raids

During searches at his residence and offices across Mohali, Chandigarh, and Ropar, authorities recovered approximately ₹5 crore in cash, 1.5 kg of gold, 22 luxury watches, keys to high-end vehicles including Audi and Mercedes, property papers, firearms, and imported liquor.

Bribe demand claim

A scrap dealer lodged a complaint accusing Bhullar of demanding an ₹8 lakh bribe to drop an FIR filed in 2023 and threatening further coerced payments. A middleman involved has also been arrested.

Broader implications

Bhullar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, has held several key posts in Punjab police. The arrest raises questions about high-level graft and oversight in police ranks. The investigation will determine if the assets match lawful income.
