Canadian MP Urges Law Enforcement to Address Khalistani Extremism Seriously

Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya has called on the country’s law enforcement agencies to address Khalistani violent extremism with the seriousness it demands.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Arya, who represents Nepean, emphasized that Khalistani extremism is a growing problem within Canada, requiring immediate attention from national authorities.

Arya referenced the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), noting that a national task force is actively investigating the issue. He warned that extremism and terrorism are not limited by national borders and must be dealt with proactively.

Personal Experience of Threats

Arya shared his recent experience of facing a disruptive demonstration by Khalistani protesters during a Hindu event in Edmonton, two weeks prior. He credited the RCMP for ensuring his safety during the incident, further underlining the domestic threat posed by Khalistani extremists.

Calls for National Action

Arya reaffirmed the need to protect Canadian sovereignty, warning that any form of interference by foreign state actors is unacceptable. His remarks come amid strained ties between Canada and India following allegations made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in September 2023, accusing India of potential involvement in the murder of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has denied the allegations, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.”

Nijjar, who was designated a terrorist by India, was killed outside a gurdwara in British Columbia in June 2022. The murder remains under investigation by the RCMP.
