Cambodia Proposes Nobel Prize for Trump After Thai Truce

Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Hun Manet, has officially nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. This decision follows his role in helping to end a serious border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.

How Trump Helped Stop the Fighting

On July 26, Trump personally called the leaders of both countries. His timely intervention helped break the deadlock, paving the way for a ceasefire signed two days later in Malaysia. The five-day conflict had resulted in around 43 casualties and more than 300,000 people being displaced.

Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sun Chanthol, praised Trump’s “extraordinary statesmanship” for his efforts. Chanthol also noted that Trump’s decision to reduce U.S. tariffs on Cambodian exports—from a threatened 49% down to about 19%—helped protect the country’s garment and footwear industries.

This is not Trump’s first Nobel nomination. Earlier, both Pakistan and Israel had expressed support for nominating him based on his involvement in resolving other international disputes.

What Comes Next

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not make the nominee list public. However, Hun Manet’s submission adds to Trump’s growing profile as a polarizing yet influential figure in global diplomacy. The Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2025 will be announced on October 10.
