Chandrapuram Ponnusamy (C.P.) Radhakrishnan took his oath as the 15th Vice President of India on September 12, 2025, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu.
Election Details
Radhakrishnan was elected on September 9, 2025, defeating opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by 152 votes. He secured 452 votes out of 752 valid ballots, while Reddy received 300 votes.
Attendance And Context
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Lok Sabha Speaker, and Chief Justice, along with other dignitaries. The event follows the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar in July 2025 on health grounds.
Role And Promise
As Vice President, Radhakrishnan will preside over the Rajya Sabha. He begins at a time when Centre-State relations and cooperative governance are under public discussion. Radhakrishnan has called for greater harmony between state governments and the Union to strengthen India’s democracy.
