BSF to Graduate First Drone Commandos Soon

The Border Security Force (BSF) is set to induct its first group of 47 soldiers as “drone commandos” within the next five weeks. The batch is undergoing training at the newly established Drone Warfare School in Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Training Program Details

The training covers drone piloting, surveillance, combat use of UAVs, and counter-drone operations. The curriculum includes both defensive and offensive tactics. The Drone Warfare School also runs specialised courses for regular personnel, termed drone commandos, and for senior officers, called drone warriors.

Institutional Setup and Modernisation Push

Inaugurated earlier this month, the Drone Warfare School has three wings: piloting and flight, tactics for both offence and defence, and research & development. Trainers from the school will later be deployed across field units to expand drone warfare capability. The initiative follows lessons from Operation Sindoor, which highlighted the critical role of drones in strengthening border security.
