“BrahMos Stands for Self-Reliance,” Says CM Yogi
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday described the BrahMos missile system as a strong example of India’s defence self-reliance. He highlighted the importance of its production unit in Lucknow, saying it contributes both to national security and to economic growth.
Local Production Boosts Defence Strength
Adityanath praised the Lucknow unit, developed under the Defence Industrial Corridor, for handling complete manufacturing and testing of the missile system. He said this has enabled India to meet its own defence requirements while also supporting friendly nations. The CM added that BrahMos stands as an assurance of safety and prosperity.
Economic and Employment Benefits
According to the Chief Minister, more than 15,000 youth in Uttar Pradesh have found employment through the defence corridor initiative. He noted that the first batch of BrahMos missiles produced in Lucknow generated about ₹40 crore in GST revenue, with targets set for producing 100 missiles annually and revenue projections between ₹150-200 crore.
Strategic Importance
Adityanath said the production facility is a major step towards the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions in defence. The unit is expected to reduce dependency on imports and strengthen India’s military capabilities.
