BrahMos Missile Facility Inaugurated in Lucknow

In a major push towards enhancing India’s self-reliance in defence production, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow. The event was held on May 11, 2025, aligning with National Technology Day, which commemorates India’s Pokhran nuclear tests.

The facility has been established with an investment of ₹300 crore and is expected to play a pivotal role in manufacturing the supersonic BrahMos missile system. It is designed to handle the integration and final assembly of the missiles, a major step in ensuring end-to-end indigenous capability.

Boost to Employment and State’s Industrial Growth

Rajnath Singh emphasized the facility’s contribution to job creation, estimating over 500 direct and 1,000 indirect employment opportunities in the region. He lauded the rapid development of the project, completed in just 40 months, and credited the Uttar Pradesh government for its efficient execution.

The facility is integrated into the broader Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), which aims to make the state a hub for cutting-edge defence manufacturing. Under this initiative, 180 Memorandums of Understanding have already been signed, promising investments worth ₹34,000 crore, of which ₹4,000 crore has been realized.

BrahMos Production to Meet Strategic Needs

The new plant is expected to produce 80 to 100 missiles annually, including the upcoming BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) variant. The BrahMos missile, developed in collaboration with Russia, is known for its high speed, low radar signature, and precision targeting capabilities. With a range of up to 400 km and speed nearing Mach 3, it can be launched from land, sea, and air platforms, making it a critical asset in India’s strategic arsenal.

The facility in Lucknow enhances India’s capacity not just for domestic security but also for fulfilling export commitments under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The expansion of BrahMos production is expected to support both military preparedness and economic development, reinforcing India’s emergence as a defence manufacturing powerhouse.
