BPL Rescheduled After Players Boycott Over Official Row
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2026 was rescheduled after players boycotted scheduled matches on January 15, refusing to take the field in protest against remarks by a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official. Two matches did not start as players stuck to their demand for administrative action.
Officials Removed, Schedule Revised
In response to the boycott, the BCB removed the official from his key committee role and issued a revised schedule for the tournament. Matches originally set for January 15 to 19 have been shifted by one day, with the Eliminator and Qualifier matches now due by January 20.
Reason For Protest
Players from several franchises refused to play after controversial comments by the board’s finance committee chairman, which they said were disrespectful. The cricketers’ representatives demanded his resignation and a public apology before returning to competition.
Impact On League
The boycott caused uncertainty over the early stages of the BPL and highlighted tensions between players and administrators. With the revised schedule now in place, matches are expected to resume, but player trust issues and governance concerns remain in focus.
